Religious Roots
Chesterfield, Idaho had many visitors before it was established as a community. Two Mormons from Bountiful, Utah initiated the colonization of Chesterfield, by persuading family and friends to leave the ever crowding Salt Lake Valley and join him in the beauty and affordability of the land. The ecclesiastical organization of the LDS ward was sufficient to meet civic and community leadership requirements. The bishop continued to be the leader and no mayor or council was needed. * *Taken from "Chesterfield: A Picture from the Past" by F. Ross Peterson 1993.
